I was asked by a fellow financial practitioner how to tackle a client who complains that her fee was too costly. This is quite an interesting question. For one thing, most people do not act rationing when come to judging how “expensive” or “cheap” a financial product or service is. The plain mathematics of $2 is more dear than $1 is not applicable in most cases sometime it is because the product involved is not straightforward but most of the time it is because client does not act logically. |

Since the last blog entry, it has been extremely busy weeks since then. Not only do I need to meet my own clients, but some of my colleagues had been asking me to meet their clients. It had been an extremely fruitful short 3 weeks. Most of the time I don't have time even to sit down at my own table and the little spared time I had, I prefer to take a break and go for a swim. The following weeks should be better and at least I can concentrate in writing some magazine articles. I also have some interesting investment ideas in my brain which I should be able to get it off my head into practical implementation soon.... |

Recently TM Asia Life reduce their premium for their wholelife policy to a jaw dropping amount. As I was preparing a quote for a client's new born baby girl, I almost fainted at the pricing: For a baby girl next age 1 and for sum assured $100,000 that covers death, TPD and critical illness, the premium is $2,411 per year limited to 5 years only. The coverage continues for LIFE. This is a participating whole life plan. It is in my opinion that this is mispricing (positively for the consumer). Consider this: For just 2411*5=$12,055 in total premium the life assured gets a cover for $100,000 for LIFE. |

As I was walking in a shopping center toy department, there was a Playstation2 demo set. We went to the station and tried to play the game. However, the game was in Japanese. Without understanding Japanese and plus the salesperson uninterested to help us (he was fiddling with his phone), my son & I lost interest in the game. |

I learnt an interesting history lesson recently. It is about Ground Rent. In England, owners of property may own the four walls and their roof but they may not own the land that the property is sitting on. Owners of the land are call freeholders while leaseholders own the lease to their home. |
