There are many people whom you can approach to do estate planning. If you ask, “I am thinking of doing estate planning, can you help me?” Here are the responses from different individuals: Accountant’s reply: “Let’s see how much tax we can save for your estate duty” (note: estate duty is already abolished) Doctor’s reply: “Let’s do an Advanced Medical Directive.” Lawyer’s reply: “What do you want?” Financial adviser’s reply: “Make sure you have enough insurance coverage.” Insurance advisers’ reply: “I have a product that pays 3 generation of benefits.” Private bank’s reply: “Let’s setup an offshore trust for legacy planning and invests in hedge funds.” Property agent: “Let’s invest in real-estate.” Mortgage broker: “Let’s refinance your property to make your estate work harder.” Wilfred Ling’s reply: “None of the above is estate planning.”
