Pro bono means "for the public good". The term is generally used to describe professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment as a public service.

I offer pro bono financial services to those who are unable to afford professional financial services. I will be pleased to offer pro bono services to individuals who meet all the below criterions:

  1. Referred to me by recognized Voluntary Welfare Organisations, charities and non-profit organizations; and
  2. Means tested to be financially not able to afford the services of a professional financial planner:
    • Average household income per household member of less than $9000 per year inclusive of bonuses and commissions. This will be those who are below the bottom 20% of the population; and
    • Average net worth per immediate family member of less than $10,000.

For example, husband and wife have a combine income of $30,000 a year. They have 3 young children under their care. The combine asset of husband and wife is $200,000 (HDB flat plus CPF and other savings) with a mortgage loan of $160000.

The average household income per household member is 30000/5 = $6,000. The net worth per family member is (200000-160000)/5 = $8,000.

Since both criterions are met, they pass the means testing.

Note that under the pro bono service, I advice only on budgeting, CPF, insurance and estate planning on a goodwill basis and limited only to 3 hours of consultation.
