Commentary on “Four child corpses found buried under Chinese bridge”

The following are my comments with regard to that article:

Children are extremely vulnerable. They are physically weaker than adults; mentally and emotionally vulnerable. They do not know their rights. Even they know their rights, they may not able to exercise their rights because adults may not listen to their plights.

In the article above, the child was beaten to death by the mother’s boyfriend. Apparently, the girl’s father and mother were separated.

The question is this: will this happen in Singapore? Well, never say never. But I think the likely scenarios that can happen in Singapore is:

One of the parent dies. But the surviving parent has never shown to be prudent in money management OR has never helped in the family and thus is not likely capable of raising the child as a single parent.
Both parents die causing their children to become orphans. As a result, the parents’ assets are at risk of been squandered away (say at the two Singapore casinos nearby). The children could be neglected as their appointed guardians may not be competent or financially ill equipped to take care of them anyway.

These two scenarios are not remote. If you are a parent, you should take steps to safeguard your children from such scenarios.
