A few weeks ago, I had a meeting with someone who came to buy medical insurance from me. He told me that he had wanted to buy medical insurance for sometime already but none of his existing insurance advisers were willing to meet up with him. One of the advisers even told him blatantly that unless he also buys a whole life product, the insurance adviser will not meet him. When I received a call from this client, I told him that I’ll help him – just come to my office to sign up.

I don’t want to “condemn” those two insurance advisers who refused to meet him. But I like to state that the commission for medical insurance really needs some fixing. While it is the most important insurance one must get, I just cannot understand why it will only provide a few plates of chicken rice worth of remuneration. People in the business of selling insurance need to feed their family, I cannot understand why are they treated in this manner by the insurers. I think fairness is important for all stakeholders. Stakeholders are consumers, sales people and shareholders of these product manufacturers. Everybody should be treated fairly, nobody should be penalized.

I appeal to the insurers to treat their insurance advisers fairly.
