Read this sad case from a fellow practitioner: http://akhiat.blogspot.com/2008/08/consequences-of-no-insurance.html

My comments:

It takes two hands to clap. Both the client and the adviser must do their part. If either party does not do their part, the client is ultimately going to suffer. The adviser must be professional and professionalism includes ethics. On the other hand, the responsibility of the client is being willing to find out more. In the past, information about financial matters may be difficult to find. However, in this modern age of internet it is no more an excuse because by searching the internet, one can find a lot of information. Although many of such information are inaccurate (and at times misleading) nevertheless they could provide the client with a reasonable idea of having a meaningful professional relationship with their advisers. Many poor families which needed handouts could even afford to buy very large LCD TV. I am sure many of them have computers with internet access. Information is already at hand.

In summary, many families found themselves uninsured and thus ruining  their family when accidents happen. This is unnecessary and the head of household of these families have no excuse at all.
