I usually don’t blog about such topic but today I’ll write some thoughts on the above subject. I read in Straits Times with regard to certain nasty comments made by netcitizens on MP Seng who were recently attacked by being burn. When I read the original comments “Top 10 things that Seng Han Thong must be thankful for”  by an anonymous poster, I almost fainted. Not only am I amazed how this person thinks, but I am also dismay that the website owners of Wayanparty.com allowed such postings on their website. The so called “Senior Writer” posted an article called “PAP MPs should reflect on blogosphere’s response to attack on Seng Han Thong” , made many points. I have only three remarks to make:

  1. What was the motivation to have a poll “to ask who deserved more sympathy: Mr Seng or his assailant Ong Kah Chua”? The poll itself is distasteful. It says a lot about the character of the person who came up the idea of such a poll itself.
  2. How would the “Senior Writer” of that article re-write his article if his own father was the person who were attacked in the same manner as MP Seng?
  3. The Senior Writer wrote “How does Mr Lui expect us to “self-regulate” ourselves ? By taking out our “hatchets” aka PAP style to attack and flame Mr Seng’s critics in cyberspace ? Every netizen is entitled to his or her own opinion.” I would like to point out that this idea of the entitlement of one’s opinion is not the same as the right to publish such opinion. This two are different. The idea that everyone is entitled to publish one’s opinion is a western concept. Not all western ideas are beneficial. Some are not.

I sensed so much anger and hate in the author’s writings. He need to grow up and consider the feelings of others.
