I saw in the news that Great Eastern will be buying back the GreatLink Choice from its policyholders. This is great news for these policyholders. For the past one year, the prices of these derivative-linked instruments (aka toxic assets) have fallen in values. Its price ranges from $0.192 to $0.611. It is good news that policyholders can now have an avenue to sell back to the insurer. For the past one year, I have been getting enquiries from anonymous policyholders seeking for advice and asking for recommendations of lawyers who are willing to take legal action against Great Eastern and their agents. So it looks to me that these are no more necessary. Great Eastern is expected to make a provision of $250 million for this buy back exercise this coming Q3. See press releases HERE and HERE.
