Today in the news is that the phrase “Capital Protected” product is outlawed by MAS while the “Capital Guarantee” is OK. MAS is out of touch with reality and urgently need to attend Finance 101 back to school. Why? For “Capital Guarantee,” who guarantees it? Is it Wilfred Ling Pte Ltd or Singapore Government? Is it the bank that sells the product? Therefore, the word “Guarantee” is only as good as the credit standing of the party providing the guarantee.
